Love is not a spiritual gift, but love should govern the use of all spiritual gifts. Boasting in one’s gifts and despising others is not a good way to be a church. The best way is to exercise one’s gifts in love for the benefit of others. In chapter 13, Paul makes three points about love:
First, without love, the use of spiritual gifts are meaningless.
Second, the way of Corinthians is the opposite of the way of Christ.
Third, spiritual gifts are transient, but love is permanent.
Love is the most excellent way because love is what counts in the end.
