March 23: “For the Glory of the Father” (John 12:20-33, John 17:1-5)

The hour of Jesus’ death on the cross has arrived. Facing the cross, Jesus prays that his death would bring glory to the Father. In this prayer, Jesus is recommitting himself to the mission the Father has given him – to die on the cross in order to give life to the world. His prayer is not a despondent one. He prays in confidence of his victory over death (John 16:33).
How are we seeking God’s glory in our contexts? Do we pray in confidence of the Father’s power and love? Are we growing in our personal knowledge of the triune God? We can enjoy eternal life in the here and now.
