Though Paul can exercise his rights as an apostle, Paul chose to relinquish them. Paul made himself a servant of everyone to win as many people as possible. Paul is following the example of Christ, who relinquished his rights as the Son of God and made himself a servant to win many people. Like an athlete, we are to exercise self-restraint for the sake of the gospel. What rights are we willing to give up in order to build up God’s people or to win people to Christ? What can we do to encourage and build others up in love?
