Paul plants a church in Corinth and spends 18 months with the members, then moves on to Ephesus to continue his mission work. After a while, Paul hears reports of some problems the church is having, and writes a letter in response. Many problems are caused by Corinthians’ Gentile way of thinking and living. Paul directs the Corinthians to think about their issues in light of the gospel so that the church can be formed by the gospel. Today, we also need to see our issues in light of the gospel and follow the ways of Christ. As we practice the gospel in community, the gospel will transform us into the likeness of Christ.
