Both Jews and Christians believe that Yahweh is Almighty and good. The problem of suffering poses a unique challenge to our faith in the God of Israel. If God is all-powerful and good, why does God allow so much suffering in the world? But the book of Job frames the question in a different way: Is God worthy? Can a person hold on to God in suffering just for who God is? Is God so worthy that he can be loved for Himself, even when we lose everything else? How we answer that question will determine how we will respond when a calamity hits us.
