Ezekiel saw God’s glory departing from the temple not long before the fall of Jerusalem. In their Babylonian captivity, the exiles concluded that God had abandoned them. But in our text, God promises that he will return to Jerusalem, redeem Judahites and bring them home. Such redemption demonstrates that Yahweh reigns. As God promised, God’s people returned to Jerusalem, but did God return? God will return in the form of a baby, who is the suffering servant in the following text. The Messiah will accomplish a greater redemption for all nations. God’s salvation accomplished through Jesus will demonstrate that Yahweh reigns!
