The Jewish Christians and the Gentile Christians were quarreling over some nonessential issues: eating meat, keeping special days, and drinking wine. Paul tells the Jews (the weak) not to judge the Gentiles (the strong) but accept them as God did. Paul is more demanding of the strong. Paul tells the Gentiles not only to accept the Jews but also to limit the exercise of their freedom for the sake of love. Paul’s concern is not who is right and who is wrong. His main concern is the unity of the church. As a gospel community, what can we do to mutually edify one another?
