Paul’s main concern in chapter 10 is still the salvation of Israel. Why didn’t the Jews obtain God’s righteousness though they pursued it with zeal? Paul gives two reasons. One, they pursued righteousness by works, not by faith. Two, they stubbornly refused to believe the gospel despite the evidence. Like Pharaoh, Israelites hardened their hearts and tripped over a stumbling rock. Are we hardening our hearts? “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts…”
